I am a dynamic teacher with a genuine interest in students’ cognitive and social growth.  I combine a strong passion for history and multimedia to motivate and inspire students to construct their own understanding of the past and its connection to their personal lives. I am a highly motivated leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  I am actively involved in curriculum development, mentoring, career preparation, and community work.  I effectively collaborate with colleagues and foster healthy relationships with students.  My key strengths include:

Jan. 2008-Feb 2008     Student Teacher;                                        Leestown Middle School – Lexington, KYTaught eighth grade Social Studies with supervising teacher, Paul Newton. Worked with the students for four weeks of instruction and activities concerning CONTENT and CONTENT. The students were gained a full understanding of CONTENT through ACTIVITY. ELABORATE ON ACTIVITY                Aug. 2007-Dec. 2008    Student Teacher;                                         Berea Community High School – Berea, KYTaught high school Government, U.S. History, A.P. U.S. History, and World Civilizations. Worked with students from ninth, tenth and eleventh grades under supervising teacher, Sally Robinson. Taught a total of forty-seven days with thirty-seven of those at a full-load of five one-hour classes each day. In the classroom, students discovered their strengths through group work.  Students developed writing skills through analytical essays and journal writings.  Students became adept at creating analytical arguments concerning major events in our world and culture. Students were able to align their interests with the curriculum.  Students found a structured environment with consistent discipline. In addition, I also served as assistant coach of the high school’s mock trial team and the middle school’s academic team.   Jan. 2007-Feb. 2007     Student Teacher;                                         Berea Community High School – Berea, KY Taught high school Government for one month January term. Worked with tenth graders under supervising teacher, Sally Robinson for a total of twenty days. Students interacted thoroughly with founding American documents. Students created films connecting ideas of democracy from the birth of the nation to today. Numerous conferences with supervising teacher and professional development opportunities were seized.    Aug. 2005-Dec. 2006    Teen Mentor Coordinator;                                         Berea College Teen Mentoring – Berea, KY            Responsible for organizing educational and recreational programs for area youth        ages 15-18. In charge of pairing and supervising college students and youth during social and educational mentoring. Responsible for planning volunteer projects and meaningful experiences for youth. In charge of organizing reflections and evaluating effectiveness of mentoring programs and activities.  Jun. 2005-Aug. 2005     Day Camp Counselor;                                         Berea College Students for Appalachia Day Camp – Berea, KYResponsible for organizing educational and recreational programs for children ages 4-14. In charge of leading games, activities, and organizing field trips. Responsible for supervising and engaging groups of 30 or more children daily.
